 Homemade Chicken and Waffles Recipe  

A classic comfort dish combining crispy buttermilk fried chicken with fluffy waffles, drizzled with maple syrup. Perfect for brunch or dinner!

  Ingredients 

  For the Fried Chicken:

- 4 boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts (or 8 tenders)  

- 2 cups buttermilk  

- 1 tsp hot sauce (optional)  

- 2 cups all-purpose flour  

- 1 tbsp paprika  

- 1 tsp garlic powder  

- 1 tsp onion powder  

- 1 tsp cayenne pepper (adjust for spice)  

- 1 tsp salt  

- 1 tsp black pepper  

- Vegetable oil (for frying)  


 For the Waffles: 

- 2 cups all-purpose flour  

- 2 tbsp sugar  

- 1 tbsp baking powder  

- 1 tsp salt  

- 2 large eggs  

- 1 ½ cups buttermilk  

- ½ cup melted butter (or oil)  

- 1 tsp vanilla extract  


 Optional Garnishes: 

- Maple syrup, butter, hot sauce, chopped parsley/scallions

  Instructions

 1. Marinate the Chicken:

- In a bowl, mix buttermilk and hot sauce. Add chicken, ensuring it’s fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for maximum tenderness).


2. Prep the Dredge:

- In a shallow dish, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.


 3. Fry the Chicken:

- Heat 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet to 350°F (175°C).  

- Remove chicken from buttermilk, letting excess drip off. Dredge in flour mixture, pressing to adhere. For extra crunch, dip back into buttermilk and dredge again.  

- Fry chicken in batches for 5-7 minutes per side (until golden and internal temp reaches 165°F). Drain on a wire rack. Keep warm in a 200°F oven.


 4. Make the Waffles:

- Preheat waffle iron.  

- In a bowl, whisk flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In another bowl, beat eggs, buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla.  

- Combine wet and dry ingredients until just mixed (small lumps are okay).  

- Pour batter into the iron and cook until golden and crisp (per iron instructions).

 Serving Suggestions

- Stack a waffle with 1-2 pieces of chicken. Drizzle with warm maple syrup, add a pat of butter, and sprinkle with parsley or scallions. Serve with hot sauce on the side.
